Course HYcu-101-Gauge: HYcu-101 Introduction to Compu-Spread Hydraulics
Description
This is a 1st level hydraulics training course for anyone involved with mobile Compu-Spread hydraulic equipment. As an introductory course it is recommended for those who are new to hydraulic equipment however it is also recommended for trades personnel to supplement their trades training in the area of hydraulic control. This training course is also highly recommended for engineering personnel who are tasked with hydraulic system improvement, system modifications and system design. The course was developed with the idea that hydraulically powered machines are best understood and that hydraulic system problems are more efficiently resolved by those who understand the physical principles that apply to hydraulics.

Length
3 days

Topics
  • Pascal's law and the hydrostatic principle
  • Understanding hydraulic/mechanical relationships (flow/speed, pressure/force/torque)
  • Energy balance and heat generation in hydraulics
  • Understanding hydraulic symbols and interpreting hydraulic schematics
  • Overview of fundamental circuits often used in mobile hydraulic systems
  • Linear hydraulic actuators (cylinders) types and operation
  • Rotary hydraulic actuators (motors) gear and piston
  • Principles and operation of positive displacement pumps
  • How and why we control pressure in hydraulic systems (relief valves, reducing valves etc.)
  • Principles and methods of controlling flow in the hydraulic system (throttling vs. flow control)
  • Controlling the actuator direction using spool type directional valves via M4 blocks
  • Throttling possibilities with spool type directional valves
  • Introduction to load sensing pumps and load sensing valves
  • Load holding via counterbalance valves
  • Understanding variable displacement pumps and motors and controllers
  • Understanding closed circuits (hydrostatic transmissions)
  • Comparison of open circuits and closed circuits
  • Introduction to fluid cleanliness and filtration
  • Knowledge reinforcement with hands-on lab exercises
  • Approximately 50% lecture and 50% hands-on lab
Prerequisites:

Proficiency in reading and math is required.
