This is part one of a 1st level hydraulics training course for anyone involved with industrial hydraulic equipment. The course was developed with the idea that hydraulic systems are best understood and that hydraulic system problems are more efficiently resolved by those who understand the physical principles that apply to hydraulics.

The course provides a practical foundational knowledge into hydraulic technology and explores hydraulics as a medium for energy transfer and transmission.

It is meant as part 1 of 2 of basic hydraulic control training. Together these are a precursor for instructor led custom courses and higher level control courses.

The course is meant as a precursor for second level instructor led Bosch Rexroth hydraulic courses. The information covered is a prerequisite for custom on-site hydraulic training.

Introduction and overview of variable speed pumps drives and Bosch Rexroth's Sytronix technology

This course is designed for those interested in closed loop control of a hydraulic axis
Fundamental hydraulic principles as they relate to the contol of a hydraulic cylinder will be covered and the idiosyncrasies of a hydraulic axis control versus the control of an electrical axis will be discussed in detail

Application and sizing of an open loop axis controlled with a continuous control "proportional" valve
Applications in horizontal and vertical orientation will be investigated to see the impact
Sizing tools and formulas will be provided alsong with a MS-Excel spreadsheet to aid in future project work
Valve selection as related to matching the valve to the proper application
Open and closed loop controller selection and application
Review of available simulation software

This is an introduction to axial piston pumps and motors and a comprehensive overview of typical open circuit pumps for industrial application Model codes and controller operation for the A10V and A15VSO pumps will be reviewed and insights will be given as to the proper interpretation of the standard data sheet for each pump type. Detailed application hints and guidelines will be given and reviewed with practical examples in order to avoid pitfalls commonly encountered in mis-application of open loop variable displacement pumps. Although specific to Rexroth swashplate piston pumps, these application hints can be applied to any open-circuit pump.
